After a Naval Drill Reserve where I found myself working 12-14 hours for three days and then with Thanksgiving this week and all that goes into that, I decided to take the week off and resume Z & G back next Monday, maybe this will get my buffer somewhat started again. Or at least catch up on a guest strip I need to finish up and a fan art I want to do. Thank you for your understanding, who knows, I may end up doing a ZGVision for Friday, I’ll see how my schedule goes. and how it went was I finished up my guest cartoon for Bearman and was able to get Friday’s comic up. It didn’t feel good to have to miss Monday’s comic so I just made sure that I got one out.

I may have gotten out of being Active Duty Navy, but I am now in the Navy Reserve. This past weekend was my first reserve drill weekend while my comic has come back from hiatus and that in itself is causing the Sept 17th comic being late. Late comics upset me very much. I was working on the comic last night and I could barely keep my eyes open, so instead of injecting myself with coffee and possibly messing myself up for work on Monday morning, I decided that I would put the pen down and get some rest. Instead of pushing off the comic till Friday, like I had to do last week (due to a broken air conditioner and my family and I not being at the house) I am going to plug away and finish up the comic tonight and have the comic up at the latest Tuesday. I hope you understand my dilema and know that I am working out a schedule in my after work time to be able to have sufficient time to get my comic done and posted on the scheduled Mondays and Fridays. Thank you all for your continued support.
Ramblings of an explanation for the time away
by Roland on August 17, 2012 at 8:16 amI am back into making comics and I am happy. I can’t believe that it has been 9 months since my last comic being posted and I have been very upset by that. This was an unplanned hiatus, and it was all due to life changes, as it always seems to be the case. I had just gotten out of the Navy of 14 years and I ended up getting a job back in my home area of Corpus Christi, Texas. So from the notice of getting my new job, I moved from Florida to Texas the following week, leaving my family in Florida till I could find a place to live for us all. Trying to find time to do my comic between getting familiar with my new job and house hunting became non-existent. As time passed and things have settled down, somewhat, I finally got to doing my comic again. So I hope you excuse the absence and I really hope you enjoy the comic.
Just to let everyone know, with the unexpected possibility of moving next month from Florida to Texas and my son being sick, updates will resume as soon as possible, hopefully being back on Friday Monday. We will keep you updated.
Update: My son has been sick all week, many trips to the doctor, so be here Monday (September 26) when the new Z & G will be up.
Working on Monday’s proved to be a little more trying than usual. A late night trip to retrieve some forgotten items and me falling asleep at my tablet cause me to have to hold off until after work on Monday. It also didn’t help that I was doing a double sized comic. I know this sounds like excuses right now, but I would rather explain myself than have you all think that I just didn’t update. So expect the comic out sometime tonight. I have it sketched out and stuff so it shouldn’t take me long to complete it when I get home. Thank you for your understanding.
I really need to up my frequency that I post blogs. I rarely do it and I think to keep people wanting to come back regulary, I need to post other than on comic update days. Now the question is, what do I blog about. There are many things that interest me that I could blog about. The question is, what is it that interests me that will have people actually want to read about. I could do movie reviews or just blog about current events. Heck, I could do both. I know that once I make the decision, it shouldn’t be that bad to keep it going. So if there are suggestions at what you would want to read about. Let me know.

Thanks to John Wigger from Zombie Roomie, he saw that I needed help and he offered it to me. One thing I have not been very pleased with are my word balloons. If I could actually hand draw them, it would be fine, but as you can see, I can’t. I sent over my artwork to John and he wrote me up a little tutorial on how to accomplish something I was lacking in. With the tools he has provided me, I hope to make my comic a little more pleasant looking. Here is the example John sent me. I am hoping to use the tutorial he sent me and re-do Monday’s comic and continue to do the comics in somewhat this manner.
With all that is going on in my life right now, I thought I would change up my update schedule and reduce Z & G to just Fridays which I thought would free up some time. I was wrong. I ended up doing a random comic MJC Presents on Mondays and still keep my RetroWednesday going. I had missed a couple of updates for the Wednesday comic and then I realized I was trying to fit my life and schoolwork around my comic. The schoolwork is a new element I added into my life in April and I did not plan accordingly. This past Monday (10th) I put my comic on hiatus till June and though it makes Z & G a cliffhanger, it needed to be done. During this time I am planning on focusing my time on Family, Work(Navy), and school. One of the great things about this time is I also plan on finally creating a buffer to alleviate some of the scheduling conflicts that may occur in June when I start updating again.
I still plan to draw and keep in touch via Twitter as to not be forgotten. Right now I am doing a piece of art for Bearman Cartoons. And I have some fan art I am finishing up for three people. Thank you all for your support and understanding. Hopefully you will join me once again when I come back in June, rejuvenated.

College. It is something I haven’t done since I joined the Navy in 1997. This is my first go-round with college, and luckily I have acquired some college credits through out the years by the schools and jobs I have had in the Navy. As if attempting a webcomic wasn’t enough on my plate, I have added this and my plate is getting pretty full. So until I can get into a good routine with this added responsibility, I am going to make “Z & G” a Friday only comic. Now I am still doing RetroWednesday until that resource is dried up. And possibly I am still going to be posting a small topical comic on Mondays. So really this is not reducing my “workload” that much, but I feel that making “Z & G” a Friday comic only, will allow me to give it the attention it needs right now to hopefully progress my writing for the strip. With that I am working on making a new banner for the site and making some ad banners and stuff. So really instead of reducing my workload I am just rearranging some things to hopefully make things smooth. I hope everybody understands, and I thank you for your support.
Wow, I have been getting a lot of hits today, and I know it has to be because of Milly’s cameo in the webcomic Space Between. There are a few of us webcomicker in Twitterverse that are Pokemaniacs, and one of them is the creator of said comic. He made up a very awesome picture of a few of us Poke-players’ characters. Go check it out.
